Marlen Kaufmann studied Communication Design at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle (Saale), graduating in 2019 with a focus on Information Design. From 2019 to 2021, she worked as a project-based associate with Prof. Matthias Görlich (Communication/Information Design) at Burg Giebichenstein. Between 2021 and 2023, she was head of public relations and in-house designer at Werkleitz, a media art association in Halle. She is currently based in Berlin and Hamburg, working as a freelance graphic designer while pursuing her Master’s degree in the Studio for Experimental Design at HFBK Hamburg under Prof. Jesko Fezer.
Her work operates at the intersection of graphic design, discursive theory, and participatory processes, driven by a fundamental interest in language, communication, mediation, collaborative authorship, and process-oriented practice. In recent years, her focus has included information and wayfinding systems, working and teaching conditions in design practice, and structural transformation in rural areas.
